Joyce used to visit Arundel Square with her mother Ethel
Raymond who emigrated to Australia on the day George 5th died in 1952. He worked in mineral exploration in Papua New Guinea, Port Moresby where he contracted a virus and had to return to Brisbane, Australia where he lost his job. He emigrated to New Zealand where he married a nurse. He died aged 52. His descendents live in Christchurch.
Her other brother Clifford who worked for the Post Office factory. He loved sailing. He took a holiday to Paxos Island where he had a heart attack and died aged 54.
Laura and Arthur Roberts occupied the basement, ground and first floor at 55 Arundel Square. Laura's son Jack Tranter and his wife Madelaine occupied the top floors until Jack got sick of working the long hours for the Post Office which involved train journey from Holburn sorting office to Kings Langley in Hertfordshire daily. Jack and Madelaine returned to her home down Portsmouth. Joyce thinks they both died there. They had a son Clifford.
Laura knew an English ballet dancer to danced under a Russian name. Laura tried to get her grandaughter by Rita Jones, Alma, on to the stage.
Laura's father was the son of the Head of the Estate who had an affair with a House/Servant. The son was packed off to India with the British Army. Laura was raised by the Estate Owner as his own paying for education etc. Laura was famous for her style, manners and diction and much admired by the opposite sex!
Jack Alfred Tranter
Jack was in the navy during the first world war. Jack met Madelaine after coming ashort and spotting her playing in a Salvation Army Band outside the Royal Navy Dockyard. Her father was furious at her involving herself with a humble sailor. Jack married Madelaine and their love endured. They are buried in a cemetry in Portsmouth.
