Marylebone School London
To be verified....
William Bowyer attended a 'posh' school in London paid for by an unknown benefactor. It is rumoured that he lived with his mother and an ‘aunt’. The aunt was partial to a drop of gin and, it is said, tricked the unsuspecting William into parting with monies he received. She offered him a lockable drawer. It was the second in the unit.
Unbeknown to him, she held the key to the top drawer and would simply pull the drawer out of the unit and help herself to the cash in the drawer below.
So poor was William that he attended school wearing paper collars and cuffs because fabric ones could not be afforded.
